Vimal Prajapati

With his affinity for “all things music” sparking at the age of 3, Vimal M. Prajapati has spent his life drawn to rhythm, bass, beats, and melody.  After beginning his musical career as a DJ for 10 years, Vimal expanded his passion into the world of musical instruments, primarily with percussion. 

Picking up his very first Dhol while in Bombay (Mumbai) in 2003, Vimal’s love for creating music was set ablaze.  Completely self-taught and training his ear for music, he focused heavily on learning traditional Punjabi Dhol in the ensuing years.  After his introduction to Nishad Parmar in 2006, Vimal began to explore new musical genres, combining Hip Hop, Latin, African, and World Music through the sounds of the Dhol.

 Currently, Vimal is expanding his musical horizons through other mediums, such as the Tumbi (stringed-instrument), Algoze (flute), and the Tablas.  He can be seen at various events throughout the U.S.—from private functions to public charities and concerts.
