Nishad Parmar
Stemming from a family of musical genius and drawn to his passion for rhythm and melody, Nishad Parmar has been a student of Tabla for over 20 years. Originally receiving his training from his father, Bharat Parmar of Delhi Gharana, he developed and expanded his talent in North Indian Classical music through his mother, renowned vocalist Kalpana Bharat. As his age and skill level progressed, Nishad received opportunities to learn from the very best: Aashim Kumar, disciple of Ustad Allah Rakha, and currently with the Tabla Maestro himself, Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Using the backbone of Punjab Gharana (a style of playing), Nishad has been able to dynamically merge the Tabla and several genres of music with flawless capability. The way in which he seamlessly coordinates the Tabla with Fusion Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, and World Music is an absolute treat for audiences to experience. His unique style is also well appreciated by several talented musicians, individuals who Nishad has had the pleasurable opportunity to play alongside: Legendary Santoor artist Bajan Sapori; Rustam Sapori; Ramesh Oza; Julius Gill; world music sensations, Funkadesi; Hip-Hop artist, Kidd Skilly and the producers of the late R & B artist, Aaliyah.
Nishad currently resides in the Chicago land area. He has expanded his musical interests to other instruments from around the world, and has taken a strong focus of translating percussive Tabla rhythms to the Punjabi Dhol drum. Recently teaming with Vimal M. Prajapati from Chicago, Nishad has been actively performing in various concerts, music festivals and charitable fundraisers around the Chicagoland area.
